Sixty before 60: Introduction

I’ll be 60 years old in a bit over a year. I came up with this idea toward the end of last year, but I was originally thinking of it as going 60 new places (or doing new hikes etc.) And I’m not hearty enough to do a lot of outdoorsy things in the rain which is the usual thing here in the PNW at that time of year. Plus I had other things going on.

So with the shorter timeframe, and still wanting to do something like this, I’m going to broaden it to anything new or cool. Anything I’ve been saying I want or need to do and haven’t gotten around to in my almost three years living here. (I’ve also got a few things in my pocket that I can tack onto the list before I’m starting this if I fall too short, lol.) I’m going to expand it to new recipes too, if they seem worthy.

I’m outside of Astoria, Oregon. There are MANY things to do in Astoria itself that I haven’t done and I’d like to. I keep thinking when company visits we’ll do X or Y, but there’s never enough time to do everything. (And they keep coming in the winter, lol.)

I like to drive. I go to Portland often enough. There’s a LOT there that I’d like to check out. I’m thinking mostly day trips but a few things with an overnight thing here and there as well.

I started a list earlier this year. I’m not going to peek at it yet. I’m going to just rattle off a bunch of things I’d like to do and places I’d like to go. They aren’t all terribly exciting. I will overthink organizing this if I don’t just start typing.

Cathedral Tree Trail
Fort to Sea Trail
Astoria Column (go up to the top)
Columbia River Maritime Museum
Heritage Museum
Paddling on Coffenbury Lake
Kayak tour(s)
Rafting tour(s)
Tulip Festival (and other things like that)
Wine Tasting in the Willamette Valley
Bend, OR (and other Eastern Oregon
Something around Mt. Hood
Something around Mt. Saint Helens
Go clamming
Go on a boat tour around here

I think that’s enough for now.

I’d like to do some more adventurous recipes. We used to do a bit more of that, but my kitchen here does not inspire me. But I’d like to do some new soups and some Asian recipes that aren’t just me throwing things together.

I’d also like to bake more. Both bread and desserts. This may seem counter to my health goals. But at least at this point I’m not excluding anything. I’m just not eating things that aren’t worth the calories, fat etc. But homemade desserts or other bakery quality goods in moderation, yes please!

I don’t know yet how I’ll update this. I’m not going to overthink it ahead of time. I’m just going to roll with it!
